The 2026-2027 season is here. And we wanted to make sure you went into it with the best version of HELIOS we've ever built for coaches.

This update is a big one. Fundamental changes to how data is collected, a complete overhaul of the coaching app, and a set of improvements that have been on our list for a long time. It’s all live now, all built around one goal: getting you to the insights faster, whether you're behind the bench or behind a laptop.

Here's everything that's new.

Syncing just got a lot easier.

As a coach, if you want to make reliable decisions based on HELIOS data, it’s critical that you collect consistent data every game, practice, and skills. We noticed that there were a lot of sessions where the data never fully synced for all players. This leads to missed feedback opportunities, missed shift videos, unreliable baseline models for players, and overwritten data. The challenge is syncing data at home or at the hotel after playing in rinks with limited or non-existent WiFi or Cell Services.

So we fixed it.

Before, coaches needed to bring the whole case home, plug it in, then restart the entire syncing process. Now, HELIOS will extract data from the Cores via bluetooth and store on the local device that ran the team session. When that device reconnects to WiFi or cellular data, we will automatically push the data to the cloud without the coach needing to do anything manually.

This will save coaches time and ensure data is collected and synced every time. New icons in the HELIOS app will help you see the status throughout the syncing and uploading process.

Coaching App Overhaul

The mobile app for coaches was long overdue for a makeover! We completely overhauled the design and functionality of our coaches app to make it more intuitive, informative, and insightful for coaches. While the web dashboard is still your primary place for team-level reports and dashboards, the mobile app experience is much more useful.

Design
You will notice a much more refined, sleek look across the coaching app that aligns with the updates we previously made to the player view.

Team Rosters
Coaches now have more options for viewing their roster on the Team tab. Before, you were locked into a view that ranked players by Weekly Stride Time. Now sort by jersey number, last name, Hustle Score, or Average Time on Ice. This allows you to quickly view player TOI and effort across your roster.

Activity Tab
The activity tab now shows more information for each session and allows you to filter and sort by session type. If you enter opponents and results in the app or on the coaching suite, they will appear on your game activity along with the date and time.

Adding Game Information
Using the pen icon in the top right of each session, coaches can now add game details that will display on the Activity on the mobile app and web dashboard. Tap the pen and you can enter your opponents name, home or away, and what the score was.

Session Results
Inside a session, you will see information related to team and individual performance. Any game-related information (opponent and score) will be displayed inside the session card. We surface Team Avg Load so coaches can gauge training volume across the team. And the player list shows each player's Hustle Score and TOI from the session. Coaches can sort this list for more intentional viewing.

You will also see new indicators around syncing that help you understand where your session is at in the syncing process and if any action needs to be taken.

Multi-Period Session Summaries
For teams that run multi-period game sessions, you now have a total summary view of TOI and Hustle Score across all periods at the top level. You can then click into each period and see individual and team performance from each period.

No more tapping into each period and doing mental math to try and figure out TOI and performance when using the mobile app. It’s all done for you.

Coaching Suite Player List

We know coaches have a lot on their plate and don’t always have the bandwidth to analyze all the robust data we provide in the Coaching Suite. It can also be challenging to quickly gauge individual or team performance trends over the season.

To make this easier, we updated the Players tab on the web dashboard (app.helioshockey.com). This updated design allows coaches to sort and filter for easier viewing and ranking. We selected five critical metrics that summarize player performance, and allow you to see these trends across the full season, the last month, and the last session.

Using this new view, coaches can quickly see how players are performing against their own baselines in the areas that matter most.

There are many more exciting design updates and features coming to the coaching suite on the web dashboard. As always, if you have feedback, we want to hear from you!
